New A45S

Post by rjc_147 » Wed Jan 02, 2019 2:41 pm

Seems only 421BHP for then new A45S and 387BHP for the new A45
Not very exciting as a good remap of the current A45 gets you there or better

New A45S

As a stock 2.0 turbo, they’re still good numbers. Still got to pass ever stricter emissions etc.

Can’t knock it. Although, I’d do away with the drift mode. That’s tacky Ford Sales BS.

420 on a stock 2.0 is insane.

Imagine a map getting it close to 500 or are they now operating close to the limit for the 4 pot?

That’s a shame hardly going to worry an rs3 or similar

Like some one else said a decent map on the current a45 will be the same. I was hoping for a step up.

Pretty sure MB warranty will keep max power well within safe limits, so will never compare to aftermarket tuners
But have to agree 420 from a 2L is amazing, but real world performance isn’t just measured by BHP

Not a massive jump in terms of power but if they have managed to get some weight savings etc hopefully the acceleration will be better and fingers crossed the exhaust is just as good and ideally better.

You forgot to mention the new Mercedes AI linked to every new digital dash and command module... Intelligent lane changing (does it for you), next it will be driving it for you too.... Not a fan myself, sorry.

Why are people so obsessed with how many hp the RS3 has? If the A45S comes out with 450hp you can bet your bottom dollar that the RS3 will get a refresh and come up with 455...

A car's ability has little to do with hp and everything to do with balance and handling. My 101hp 3-cylinder Smart Roadster is comfortably quicker around the NC500 than a Audi RS6.

Which is why the lesser-powered A45 is quickest around the Brooklands track than any other AMG and why the more powerful RS3 is nose-heavy and understeers in comparison with the A45.
It's only going to beat an A45 in a drag race which requires virtually no skill - and someone will always come along with a faster more powerful straight line car whatever you own.

In the real world on a twisty B road, where driver ability & car handling counts, the A45 is king and will happily outgun more powerful and paper-quicker metal.

If you want a genuine driver's car - buy an A45. If you want to wave your willy in a pub, buy an RS3.

Well aware of handling / balance etc and how car should be set up I also have a well sorted e46 m3 which is a lot more fun than the a45 but wouldn’t stand a chance in the real world against any a45.
But that being said power and straight line performance was always the a45s thing wasn’t it ? With the new rs3 and m2 comp I would have hoped mb would have been able to go further. I guess we will see what it’s truly like soon enough maybe the real world performance and driver engagement will be on another level.

I love the tech in the new a class I borrowed one the other day as the where trying to get me to buy a new a35
