Of course it shouldn't crunch, any metal to metal crunching or grinding noise will always mean something is wrong.

Got mine booked in for gearbox inspection next Thursday, they're having it overnight, but it doesn't crunch every time, hopefully it will perform for them on demand...

Not that I know of, was advised last time I was there to get it looked at before warranty runs out as it has crunched a few times.

just picked the car up from the gear box inspection..... now, bearing in mind that i have owned the car since last july, and it has only "crunched" 3 maybe 4 times during my ownership they are replacing the output shafts....
so, any owners reading this who are still within warranty get it checked, even if it has only done it a few times......

Just keep in mind that your lovely one man, one engine, is going to be removed from the chassis by some dimwit ‘Specialist’ and plonked back in ASAP.

When you get it back, be scrupulous about your car. Any new noise, any extra vibration, check over your bumper thoroughly as it all gets removed and lobbed in the workshop, and make sure you complain at any sign of damage or negligence.

At first I was happy that they’d undertaken the work on warranty without question but after the gearbox failed and the story behind the cause of the failure changed two or three times, I got bored with their BS.

I was assured it was a very rare situation these Gearbox ‘recalls’ and then after the cock up they tell me they’ve done loads of them and mines the first to go wrong. 🤨

Anyway, good luck! Keep us posted.

Took my W176 in last week. Took people’s advice and made a video of it crunching and moving (bonnet up) before I went in. Left overnight. Following day confirmed they need the car in for a week to “fix” and will be done under warranty. The eye candy on the desk had no idea/details and seemed to think the reason I brought it in was the noise was “annoying” 😂. But at least it’s getting done.

Need to take some videos/photos of panel gaps etc to make sure it’s still mint when it comes back. Mate had big arg with the Citroen dealer when he had a similar issue with his DS3. Came back with damage on the front bumper that looked like they’d dropped it after taking it off 🙄

If anyone has advice on other stuff to look for when it comes back, please let me know. Cheers

The badge on your engine cover. They broke mine. Being the careless owner I unfortunately am... I didn’t bother looking under the bonnet for months afterwards and they deny all knowledge.
